With an extra day in February and the start of spring on the horizon, let us give you an added incentive to lace up those shoes and get walking with your family! Challenge yourself to a mileage goal and invite friends and family to support your journey by sponsoring you to achieve it.
Every penny you raise for Baby Umbrella will go directly to support new families in West Kent as they take their first vulnerable steps with their new babies. We believe that every family should have access to skilled and compassionate support on their parenting journey - and together we can make that happen!
Walking in winter has numerous health benefits for the whole family. It boosts your mood, strengthens your immune system, and increases your circulation as your body works to stay warm. Plus, it's an excellent way to beat the winter blues and boost your overall well-being - just twenty minutes in nature significantly reduces your cortisol levels (the stress hormone).
There’s plenty of nature to see in February too, and an extra day to see it! See if you can spot any snowdrops or other early spring flowers; look for birds and woodland creatures that are easier to spot with reduced leaf cover; and keep an eye out for rock formations that appear when plant cover dies back. Why not print off some of the Woodland Trust’s fantastic Outdoor Activities for Kids or the Wildlife Trust's Wildlife Watch resources and see how many birds, trees or fungi you can identify on your walk?
What are you waiting for: February’s wonder awaits you! Bundle up, grab a cuppa, and let's embrace this winter together.
