Story
In 1997, the founders of RETRAK inspired a small group of committed supporters to raise £25,000 to buy some derelict buildings on a plot of land in Ugandas capital city, Kampala. Construction and renovation work began, to form a base for all future Uganda programmes and projects which, today, support and give hope to thousands of vulnerable people.
In 2023, it will be exactly 25 years since the official opening of what was then The Clubhouse. In February 1998, the Kabaka (King) of Buganda, HRH Ronald Mutebi II, joined hands with a young street child to cut the ribbon and declare the centre open. In honour of the Silver Anniversary of that event, we are looking towards the future of our work in Uganda and need your support to equip the same centre for the next 25 years.
We are renovating the buildings and land to create a long-lasting head office for all operations in Uganda. Establishing the head office will protect the Uganda programmes from fluctuations in fundraising and add to their cost-effectiveness. Children and young people at the very heart of all that Hope for Justice does, are supported in two fully-equipped centres, called Lighthouses, in nearby parts of Kampala. The renovation work will ultimately ensure that, annually, over 300 young people are fully supported, cared for and kept safe and that thousands of others will benefit from the empowering and liberating work of Hope for Justice.
25 years ago, supporters raised £25,000 to ensure the Clubhouse would be at the heart of rebuilding and restoring the lives of hundreds of street children. 25 years later, we need your support to raise the same amount, £25,000, to ensure the work develops and grows over the next 25 years - preventing exploitation of children and young people and enabling them to fulfil their potential.
