To celebrate his 80th birthday Peter Thomson decided to participate in a marathon. Not being a runner he decided to row the 26 miles from Benson to Henley on the Thames instead. This will be happening on August 16th.

He managed to persuade his daughter Sarah and granddaughter Eva to join him so there will be "Three Generations in a Boat". At any one time there will be two rowing and one coxing, so each of them will have rowed for two thirds of the marathon and steered for a third.

This year Peter is the President of the Henley Rotary Club and has decided to raise funds for this charity. The Club then decides where the money will go, distributing it to a cross-section of charities, from small local organisations through to international disaster relief. UPDATE:

The row was a success. The crew arrived at Henley Bridge 5 minutes behind schedule having rowed from 8.30am to 5.30pm with a 20 minute lunch break.
