Story
For the past 45 years 3rd Forfar St Margaret's Scout Group has been sponsored by St Margaret's Church in Forfar. Due to changes imminent within The Church of Scotland we have found ourselves in the position that soon the church will be closing which will ultimately leave our Scout Group without a meeting place.
We were contacted and made aware of the potential of taking over the former Pitstop building in Forfar. Although previously used for youth focused activities, a significant amount of work has been required to bring this up to the standard we would expect of a building to be used by our Scout Group. This has included securing the building, roof maintenance, asbestos removal, renewing the flooring, updating the toilet and kitchen facilities, plumbing, electrical and fire safety checks, painting and decorating.
To date, local business have been very generous in supplying items required to facilitate some of the works needed, for which we are extremely grateful. The input from leaders, committee members, families, and young people has been gratefully received. There are, however, costs yet to be borne, and the renovation work will continue beyond the date we relocate. Any donation, whether monetary, time, expertise, or materials is greatly appreciated.
We aim to move in in August 2023 after the school summer holidays. This move has also given us the opportunity to start Scouting's youngest section Squirrels for 4-5 year olds which we are very much looking forward to.
