Story

We are working to complete a partially built government school in the Terai region. There's a lot of work to do but we know the kids are counting on us to fix it!

Location: Nichuta, Birgunj, Nepal

Village: Paterwa village

Shree Jay Durge Dalit Basic School is located around 160km from Kathmandu near a city called Birjung. The nearby community around the school is home to eighty families with over 100 children coming to study from different places. Families living in the community are mostly so-called Dalits (untouchables) or other neglected communities. Their livelihood is dependent on agriculture and livestock, a lifestyle that has been passed down the generations.

The aim of our project in Birjung is to improve a government school that wasn't properly finished when initially constructed. This left a school in a poor state that was barely adequate for even basic education. The school lacks wall boundary, toilet and water resources. With your help, we can change that.

We want to achieve SEVEN things for these children.

1. Covering the building roof

2. Plastering walls

3. Fitting doors and windows

4. Painting

5. Maintaining the classroom floors

6. Electric Wiring

7. Toilet facilities

We estimate that the budget required to complete these works is about GBP16k. The good news is that weve already raised nearly GBP7k and have been able to start the project by completing the roof and improving the plastering in the school.

We at MSH feel that these children deserve an opportunity to study in much safer and cleaner conditions.

Our budget for the remaining work is GBP9k, half of which would be spent on completing the classrooms, with the remaining funds being spent on a proper toilet facility.

We also hope to buy the kids some of these fantastic school bags that double as mini-desks. Awesome!

We have a plan for the works, a budget and skilled people in the community who can make this happen. We just need your help too! To see just how far your donations go and the difference you are making head to our wonderful Instagram page:
