Story
In the UK, someone will die of cardiovascular disease every 3 minutes.
In Greater Manchester, cardiovascular disease leads to 1 in 3 deaths. This is significantly higher than the rest of the UK.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of premature death and health inequalities in our region.
Over the past 5 years Greater Manchester hospitals, healthcare settings and community groups have been able to improve equipment, research, facilities, education and services for heart patients because of funding from NW Hearts Charity.
We have also developed a library of easy to read, clear and concise patient information leaflets which cover a range of heart conditions. These can be downloaded from our website https://www.nwhearts.org/your-heart/ and physical copies can be supplied and delivered free of charge to NHS colleagues. Development of more leaflets about different conditions is ongoing.
We recently started to offer service delivery through The Greater Manchester ICD Support Group which is organised by NW Hearts Charity, with vital support from NHS staff and ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) patients. These in person sessions are designed to:
1. Reduce anxiety and fear.
2. Improve understanding of the condition and device.
3. Provide practical, real-world coping strategies.
4. Create stronger support networks.

NW Hearts Charity is a local charity with big ambitions, please donate what you can to support our work and improve the lives of people living with heart disease, and their families, in Greater Manchester.
Our roots are local, we’re based locally and we work locally. This allows us to be fully transparent about where money is being spent.
£5 could pay for 25 patients to feel more in control about their condition through our easy to read patient information leaflets.
£50 could pay for education in the community about heart health.
£500 could pay for a rehabilitation course for people with heart disease to get them back on track.
