Prior to the Covid-10 pandemic, for at least the last 35 years, the 1st St Johns Scout Group has organised the St Johns Village Fete on St Johns Lye. It has always been the main fundraising event, allowing the group to keep subscriptions affordable, and to buy new equipment such as tents and canoes.

In 2020 and 2021 we have not been able to run the fete, resulting in a loss of over £10,000, while at the same time still having to pay out to Scout HQ for insurance and rent, which is around £5,000.

Having reduced subs over the Covid period, coupled with no fete income, has meant that we can no longer afford to do some of the bigger projects we were looking forward to, and that the children would benefit so much from.

To help us raise more funds and to celebrate the 60th year of the 1st St John's Scout Group, we are launching our 6,000 miles in 60 days challenge to children in the Group in April 2021, culminating on the day the fete would have taken place, 19th June. We are asking all the children to walk, cumulatively, 6000 miles and to raise as much money as possible through this page. Please support us in our challenge - for each £1,000 milestone individual leaders will be committed to suffering special torments at the hands of the children at Group Camp. What better reason is there to give!
