Story
Dear Friends of St Peter’s,
Firstly we would like to sincerely thank all those who previously
gave to our first appeal to repair our clock mechanism and bell
support structure and to install the night time silencer. This work was
completed following your generous help but a year later we have
been hit with further difficulties. The motor that drives the weight
that allows the bells to chime the number of hours has broken and
the estimate from Gillet and Johnson is £3,906. The clock is
thankfully still chiming every quarter but it is not chiming the
number of hours.
We can put some monies towards this repair but as you will
appreciate we have many other calls on our limited funds. Our clock
and bells are an iconic part of Southborough’s every day life and we
hope you can help us to get them fully operational.
We sincerely thank you for any help you can give us.
