Raising £400,000 for the NHS Statue on the 999 Cenotaph

This page is to raise funds specifically for the NHS statue which is part of the 999 Cenotaph. The 8-foot statue of an NHS nurse will represent all who have worked in our National Health Service across the UK - past and present.

The Emergency Services Cenotaph is raising at least £3.2 million to build Britain's first national 999 Cenotaph, to honour everybody (including service animals) who has served in the NHS and emergency services. The monument is backed by HRH The Duke of Cambridge and will be built by Philip Jackson.

Story

Almost 1.5 million people work and volunteer in the NHS today, with roles ranging from doctors and nurses to porters and admin staff. Whilst there are various monuments dedicated to each of the emergency services, there is no one national monument where the NHS and emergency services are honoured together - a 999 Cenotaph.

The 999 Cenotaph is supported by HRH The Duke of Cambridge, the Prime Minister and First Ministers of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The statue of the NHS nurse, which you can see at the top of this page, has been unveiled on 12 May 2021 - International Nurses Day. The statue will represent all those who work in the National Health Service across the UK, and was added to the design of the monument at the start of the pandemic.

There will be five other figures on the national monument to represent the police, fire service, ambulance service, maritime services and the search and rescue teams. A figure of a Spaniel dog will be included to represent service animals. Each figure has its own donation page, to allow people to donate to one specific statue.

We have sought to make the monument as close to the diversity of the United Kingdom as possible. As such the paramedic is an Asian female and the NHS nurse is a black female.

The 999 Cenotaph, which will be located in Westminster, is being sculpted by Philip Jackson CVO and will stand at 21-feet tall. The 8ft figures will be cast in bronze and stood back-to-back on White Portland Stone. Our plan is that the 999 Cenotaph will be unveiled in December 2022 to mark the year of Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, subject to sufficient funds being raised in time.
