Afghanistan Emergency Appeal
In Afghanistan thousands have died due to decades of war instability & famine. The dire circumstances have pushed millions deeper in to a state of poverty with their lives now at stake. As it stands more than 1 million children are at risk of death & an additional 22 million adults are suffering from food insecurity.
With little to no means to make ends meet, unemployment soaring & food prices spiraling out of control, those who are the most vulnerable in society are suffering tremendously. Already subject to extreme poverty, they are now desperate & being pushed to new extremes in the fight for survival.
Prior to the war, economic collapse & recent state of affairs, the region was already suffering from the worse drought in 27 years causing a scarcity of food, water & supplies contributing to the rise in poverty across the region.
Health services are now being pushed over the limit due to the high demand & shortage of medical supplies. As a result millions of Afghans many of whom are women & children are going untreated & are at grave risk of losing their lives.
As a last resort countless people have fled from their homes in search for a brighter future, they are now displaced & unprotected from what lies ahead.
One of the most extreme effects of the pandemic is the impact of COVID-19 on poverty in Afghanistan.
For those already suffering from the effects of draught, famine & war, the covid-19 outbreak has posed additional threats to their survival & severely impacted every aspect of their lives.
Already facing dire circumstances they have been pushed to new extremes & as a result countless more have lost their lives.
