Story
The Missionary Sisters of the Assumption have been in South Africa since 1849. Since then they have worked with the poor and most disadvantaged people to enable them attain better life chances through education, health care, social intervention and faith formation. In all their missionary work, the Sisters have tried to bring the love and compassion of Christ to the people among whom they have worked, especially those in greatest need.
We, Assumption Grammar School, are asking you to actively get involved, and walk alongside our students and staff members, in the bid to walk as many steps as possible and raise as much money as possible. The idea that our girls could help build a primary school in South Africa, offering the prospect of good education to very poor children, is a wonderful opportunity for them to feel they have contributed to society. Helping others not only benefits the receiver, but offers our girls the chance to feel they are making a difference by changing the lives, and possibly the futures, of other young people who do not have the resources they do.
As Nelson Mandela said, Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Imagine how amazing it would be if during a pandemic, we, as Assumption Grammar School community, knew that we helped those a lot less fortunate than us.
"Giving is not just about making a donation. It's about making a difference."
Thank you.
