Story

Make a donation to APRS and help protect Scotland's Countryside.

How do we do this?

We support communities who come to us for our skills and expertise in planning and understanding of land use changes as they try to navigate complex planning systems, weighted against them in their local areas. They know their area best, so we offer knowledge, advice and support in their campaign against unsustainable development in their areas. We also influence policy in these areas.

We have also played a lead role in the campaign for more National Parks in Scotland. Watch out in the news soon as nominations for the next one are rolling in! We also continue to lead the campaign for deposit return to roll out in Scotland and the wider UK, to address the littering of drinks containers and move us towards a more circular economy.

These are just some of our projects!

Please donate to our campaign and email info@aprs.scot to let us know if it is a gift donation for someone special and we will send a gift certificate.

More about APRS

We already help communities and individuals campaigning in their local areas, especially Green Belts, giving specific planning advice and support. This mainly takes place through our APRS Green Belts Alliance, however we have very limited capacity and the threats to our countryside continue to increase.

When APRS was founded in 1926, we campaigned to establish a planning system for Scotland and the network of Green Belts, which we achieved in the 1930s and 40s. Since then we have continued to champion the importance of Green Belts and speak up for the rights of communities to have a say in local planning decisions.

As we approach our centenary, we want to be able to put more resource into this area of work - it is a vital time to support communities to be involved in local planning decisions. Please help us pay for extra days of staff time to provide this support and help to individuals and communities.

Communities have no right of appeal, unlike developers, if they disagree with a planning decision, and so it is vital that they can be involved at an early stage of development planning. These development plans are being drawn up in each local authority and will guide the direction of development and planning decisions for a decade. Help us support communities to have their say.
