Story

Charity Salima is a retired midwife who felt driven to help the women of her community, who lacked access to healthcare, deliver their babies safely.

She is widely regarded as the Florence Nightingale of Malawi, successfully delivering thousands of babies while securing record-low levels of deaths both among the mothers and their babies.

Impressed by her care, donors help Charity to set up Achikondi clinic in 2008. She offers community care, family planning advice, an extensive immunisation programme and is now battling to help victims of the latest cholera epidemic.

While Charity charges a nominal fee from her patients when she can, Achikondi Clinic relies wholly on donations. So please, if you can, donate a small sum today to help her keep this life-saving service going for the people of Area 23 in Lilongwe.

About the charity
