Amantani works with young people from Quechua-speaking, rural communities in the highlands of Cusco, Peru, providing them with full scholarships to allow them access to further education. In most cases, our young people will become the first in their families to complete their studies and break the cycle of poverty by becoming young professionals.
The COVID-19 pandemic and the need for social distancing has had a major impact in Peruvian education. Peru's Government has announced that, in order to ensure social distancing, students are obliged to continue studying from home until the end of the year. Rural communities continue to be at a greater disadvantage amidst this pandemic, as most are unable to access the online platforms set up by their institutes and universities. By not having access to computers of their own, they won't be able to finish the academic year and, in some cases, they won't be able to graduate and obtain a fair employment.
At Amantani, 71 young people need laptops URGENTLY, as many of them must catch up with the ongoing academic year and others will return to their studies in the following months. Each laptop costs up to £550, but please, feel free to donate less (or more)!
Thanks to the incredibe initial response towards the campaign, we are able to increase our total target from 35 laptops to 71 laptops. Thank you all so much for your generosity! Your support is invaluable!
