Bilal Jamia Masjid & Community Centre is a well established masjid serving the Muslims of Tyneside in matters of spiritual guidance and Islamic education for four generations now. The facilities are now being run by a new generation of Muslims which wish to overcome the challenges that our predecessors encountered, by involving our community in what we see as times of hardship and struggle. The rise of racism, inequality in society, prosperity and cultural identity the modern world are just some of the many challenges we see in the 21st century. In order to combat these we need our youth to be steadfast in their Deen and apply our Deen into our day to day affairs ie how we should be living, how our actions affect how we are perceived by the wider community, how our virtues and good deeds to our whole community can have a positive effect and change in mental attitude to especially our youth in the modern age who are wishing to live and breathe in the true spirit of Islam. To get to where we should be we need to work together for reviving the spirit of community by acting with synergy toward a common goal.
We have a community centre that has been slowly eroding as a structure and hasn't really paid much attention since it was first constructed. This building should be an integral part of the day to day community affairs and needs to be utilized with more consideration toward community inclusion. At present the building cant serve any purpose until essential work is undertaken to comply with being a safe and healthy environment to be in for everyone.
Recent works undertaken by the current committee have unearthed a wide range of problems such as rising damp in the bottom quarters, a ghusl area for the deceased that wasn't up to the expectations of any bereaving families and women who use the bottom quarters of the building, complaining of untidiness and litter, coldness and damp in winter and stuffiness in summer.
We have already started to address these issues by updating the ghusl area for one, but we have uncovered many other issues to structure, electrics, plumbing and heating.
We hope to change this....with your help and generosity. We want to focus on the children. They are our future, we need us protect them and assist them in developing into confident Muslims that are aware of the reality of what world they embark upon. Too many children are not attending the community centre that would benefit from staying off the streets. How do we do that? By engaging them in activities and talks centered around them in a safe and secure premises that would be the community hub, our community centre.
As it stands we have a building in disrepair which needs to be addressed immediately, with this in mind we wish to raise our targets as quickly as Allah SWT decress this to happen In ShaAllah.
Newcastle its surrounding area has an already established yet still growing community of Muslims from all corners of the world and also revert brothers and sisters coming into the fold of Islam and we need to keep them steadfast by teaching them the true nature of Islam by us holding onto the "Rope of Allah".
By having a community centre that is accessible to the community and having regular social events and activities there for old and young then we will start to feel like a community and act like a community.
A community must be a very unified and integrated group of people who behave like one body, and in addition to his or her own personal identity, every individual should have an identity that is shared with other members of the community. All must work together in a united way for the same causes.
We live in challenging times so we need to believe that faith can indeed move mountains! That's swhy we need your help to raise a mountain of a figure. The COVID 19 saga has had an impact on every business, household and charity also! Congregations and collections reflect the current climate so we need to act now to achieve our desired goals. We can't stop the job now as we have started it but what we do need is everyone to lend support to this community based goal for our kids future to complete it and to build bridges with other faiths and communities so that we may get to know each other.
We need to appeal to each of you to assist how you . We need to raise our target of £50,000 to ensure that all works are carried out to an excellent standard (no corner cutting) and to only spend this money on the community centre to complete building works, refurbishment and other essential maintenance that we expect as we progress with this mammoth task.
