Urgent: Traditional main and mizzen sails needed

Barnabas needs new sails urgently! Our mizzen is over 35 years old and main, threadbare. Please help us safeguard Britain’s last double-ended St Ives Lugger, an important piece of Cornish maritime heritage. Together, let's keep the sails full.

Story

We're raising money to ensure the future of this historic vessel and importantly, preserving the associated skills needed to sail and maintain her. This is done through sailing traditionally, while educating our crews. There’s nothing like learning when it’s a ‘hands-on’ experience. Whatever stage of life we’re in, wet decks, wind in our faces and dipping the mainsail, is a team effort. The future rests with sharing these skills with the next generation - ideally with new sails.

About the charity

We preserve Cornwall’s maritime heritage by maintaining and sailing working vessels from the days of sail. We work to educate people about our maritime heritage, to train people in the skills associated with sailing, restoration and maintenance, and to share our enjoyment of sailing our incredible boats. We own and operate three historic working boats: Barnabas, Soft Wing and Ellen. We always welcome new people, and it really doesn’t matter how experienced you are – we exist to help people experience sailing working boats.
