Some described it as apocalyptic, the massive explosion that hit Beirut destroyed half the city. The port of Beirut provides Lebanon with 85 percent of imports. The explosion left no one safe, houses and lives are damaged beyond recognition. The country is already in economic turmoil following the collapse of its currency, the fight against Covid-19, and being the target of air-strikes. Humanitarian experts say that the country will plunge into poverty, the sings of which are already witnessed as people sleep on the streets in sweltering heat and are looking for food that no longer is available, and will not be unless we all rush to their rescue, leaving many dead and thousands injured and missing.
