Story

On December 31st 2021, Dermot Higgins, who is the oldest person to cycle around the world, will attempt to swim non-stop for 24 hours. Join him by taking on a swim challenge of your own to support people in Ireland affected by suicide.

I'm Dermot Higgins and as a suicide survivor, I'm honoured to have the opportunity to assist in raising awareness of suicide prevention and to raise funds for the Pieta Resilience Academy, by undertaking this challenge. I'm very much aware that swimming 24 hours non stop is going to demand all the strength and determination I can muster. But I'm also aware that with an amazing team of supporters and friends behind me, its just possible that I can pull it off.... Come on! Lets do this thing!

The money raised from this campaign will fund Pieta's Resilience Academy , which offers programmes for secondary school students aimed at equipping them with emotional resilience tools. By targeting risk factors and giving youth important skills, the goal is to prevent the development of suicidal behaviour.

We aim to equip young people with the skills and knowledge to support themselves not just now but long into the future.
