Story

Our Project Supervisor, Aimee, and several of our volunteers have kindly offered to do the The Big Stroll at Glasgow's Kiltwalk 2023 (14.3 miles) on April 30th to help us raise some much needed funds to build our community garden in Shortlees, Kilmarnock.

Since signing our lease in 2020 we have faced many challenges with rising costs and unexpected events which have delayed our plans to be already growing and sharing fresh produce in our community. We have already had a fire and 2 break ins which cost us time and money as well as many other stumbling blocks. All of this on top off pandemic increases and cost of living crisis. We are currently awaiting our drainage work being done to our flooded area. Our resilient team take it all in their stride and carry on working towards our goals of building, growing and sharing together to improve the health and wellbeing of our entire community.

We were all set to start growing food this year in our raised beds at the non flooded side of the garden when a new challenge surfaced. While planning to have a source of drinking water installed at the garden we have been made aware of a nearby sewer pipe which means we now need to redesign the unflooded parts of the garden and the raised beds we have been building and preparing. This may cause us extra time and increased costs again but our volunteers are not deterred and still plan on growing food this year.

Their enthusiasm, dedication and determination are insurmountable and all of their help and support is very much appreciated here at the garden. Please help them to grow and share in our community by donating or sharing our link. Thank you
