Story
As our charity of the year, this year the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy is supporting Young Roots.
Young Roots is a wonderful charity that supports young refugees and asylum seekers in London and the UK. These young people often come to the UK unaccompanied, having experienced real personal trauma. They face difficulties accessing services, education, housing and legal support.
Young Roots is the place to make you the person who can change the world for the better. It's for me a second family
Young Roots provides educational and recreational services to improve mental health and reduce isolation. They run an award winning casework service to help young people access wider networks of specialist support.
At a time when the focus is rightly on equity, diversity and belonging, we need to prioritise those that are most vulnerable. Having suffered so much to even get to the UK, young refugees and asylum seekers are often marginalised from our society with a real risk of loneliness, anxiety, PTSD and other mental health concerns too.
We have chosen to support Young Roots this year after they were nominated by Jon Mawby, Director CSI. Jon has personal experience of Young Roots as he was a trustee for them.
We want to raise £1,000 to help keep Young Roots operating. £1,000 could fund two trips (orienteering, cultural or educational) for newly arrived young people.
A donation of:
£10 could fund data for a young person so they can stay connected with their peers and access education support.
£25 could fund a one-to-one casework support session, supporting a young person with complex issues such as immigration or housing
£50 could fund an interpreter to support a young person through the complexity of asylum interviews.
