Visit the charity's profileHundreds of volunteers and employees are working tirelessly to deliver food, shelter and comfort for thousands of people forced to evacuate their homes by as many as 18 large wildfires burning across California. In Northern California, the Mendocino Complex Fire is now the largest fire in the states history, surpassing last years Thomas Fire and destroying an area almost the size of Los Angeles. Fires throughout the state are expanding rapidly, as the hot, dry and windy weather conditions persist. In Southern California, the Holy Fire has destroyed 23,000 acres of land including homes and businesses.
For evacuees like Daniel Waggoner, the Red Cross is providing safe refuge, food and care.
The Red Cross really cared about my wife and me, and didnt leave us until they were sure we each had a cot, blanket, toiletries, water, snacks and everything we needed, said Daniel.
