Cambridge House supports and protects members of our community against the ongoing effects of the pandemic, brutal cost of living crisis, and continuous budget cuts to social services - we cannot do it without your help.
Our mission has remained unchanged since we were founded as part of the Settlement Movement in 1889, which saw social activists live and work with residents in areas of high deprivation to overcome the social ills of their time. Through this work, Cambridge House spearheaded the Victorian anti-poverty movement, and we remain equally committed to solving entrenched problems with radical solutions today; our vision is of a society without poverty where all people are valued, treated equally, and lead fulfilling and productive lives.
Southwark has undergone seismic changes since our establishment, but poverty remains a deep-rooted issue in the borough and our commitment to working alongside and supporting our community has remained constant. Today we provide intensive, specialist services that enable people in crisis to manage the challenges they face, helping them to break down barriers and realise their potential. These services include:
- RISE: our year-long wraparound support programme for marginalised 1625-year-olds.
- Independent Advocacy Services: protecting the voices and rights of vulnerable people by speaking up for them when they cannot and amplifying their voice when they can.
- SENSports, Camberwell Incredibles, SuperTeens: our sports and arts-based programmes for disabled young people and adults, providing them with a safe space to socialise with peers and improve their social skills and mental and/or physical health.
- Cambridge House Law Centre: providing free, confidential advice, assistance, and representation in housing, employment, and welfare benefits law.
- Safer Renting: our tenants rights programme, providing specialist advice, support, and advocacy for vulnerable tenants of criminal landlords
Through these multi-faceted services, we aim to empower individuals and families in crisis, providing specialist and personalized services that build resilience and stability. Your support would help us maintain and develop our services, supporting people to transition out of crisis and into independence.
