Chomp - fighting holiday hunger in 2021

The impact of Covid-19 is still devastating, particularly for families struggling to put food on the table. Help us raise funds for 2021, as we continue to support children who are entitled to free school meals, and low income families.

Story

The Chomp Project has been supporting children entitled to free school meals since 2013, by running lunch and activity sessions across the city. During lockdown in March 2020, we adjusted our service to provide and deliver food boxes to families who were struggling - we delivered over 1200 food boxes to 200 families supporting 450 children. In October half term, we issued food vouchers to children in over 378 households. The number of children eligible for free school meals has risen 42% this year. Food provision will continue to be uncertain into 2021, and the struggle for these families continues.

We want to continue to support these families in 2021, by a range of activities and initiatives, including hot meals and activity sessions, food hampers, cookery workshops, wellbeing days, barista training, beginners running courses, day trips etc.To enable the project to run, we also need to raise funds for our core costs, salaries etc. And we really need your help!

If you would like to know how much to contribute £15 would be awesome start. But every pound helps!

thank you!

This is what Chomp families say about our Chomp Service during lockdown:

"Thank-you again for absolutely everything. It's been really emotional for me but Im really so grateful for you all at Chomp for helping us pull through it"

"I want to say what a life saver your boxes have been through lockdown. I honestly cant tell you how grateful I am for all our help during the horrible hard time, the biggest, deepest thank you to you all!"

"Thank you Chomp so much. This was so important and I am very grateful to have been receiving support. It kept us safe, just knowing there was someone that cared."

And some comments from agencies:

"Just wanted to say that you have provided such a crucial, much needed and much appreciated service to some of the families I work with; thanks so much for adapting during Covid times to reach out to families and continue to provide that support and human contact. I know it has made a huge difference to the families I have referred to and will also help them hopefully feel confident enough to attend the lunch clubs once they (hopefully!) resume again." Annabelle Walker, Family Coach B&H City Council

"I did want to say how much my clients have appreciated what you do, it has been amazing for me too, to be able to offer this to them and when they have felt at their most vulnerable, there are people who want to help them-thank you again." Nina Turner, Domestic Abuse Case Worker, Rise.

(Any surplus funds will be used for the wider work of Chomp)
