Story
Christmas can be a difficult time for many people affected by cancer. Your generosity is needed more than ever to ensure Christmas memories can be made for years to come.
One of our researchers, Professor Alan Parker, tells us his Christmas story: 'Like many, I have a Christmas cancer story to tell, having lost my mum to cancer, when she was 50 and I was just 17 years old. The breast cancer diagnosis was given to my mother when she was 40 years old. Instead of focusing on the years cancer took from her, I cherish the ten years cancer research gave to her. Thanks to the advancement in health systems, medicines, and treatments, we were able to share ten more Christmases together. Ten more years of my mum smiling as she watched us ride our brand new bikes. Ten more years of squeezing around the dining table in paper hats and enjoying a feast. Ten more years filled with memories that I will cherish and revisit every Christmas for the rest of my life.'
Today Professor Alan Parker is developing technologies that have a real prospect of making a difference to patients in the next few years - and it wouldn't be possible for him to do this without the support of the people of Wales.
Please donate today and help create a more hopeful Christmas story for people affected by cancer in Wales.
