Story
The Daisy Dream Team are stepping out and putting their best feet forward this April to help ensure no child has to face cancer alone. Can you offer your support?
Cancer Fund for Children's amazing Daisy Dream Team are taking to the streets of Belfast on Sunday 30th April to take on the team relay and help raise vital funds in support of children and young people impacted by cancer... meet the team!
Emma Bell - Emma is one of our incredible volunteers and supports our groupwork residential programmes at Narnia Log Cabin in Newcastle, Co. Down. These programmes allow children and young people with a similar cancer experience to build friendships and connections, gain support, develop skills and cope better with cancer in a supportive group environment. With the support of amazing volunteers like Emma, this work is possible.
Dr Robert Johnston - Rob is a Consultant Paediatric Oncologist at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and is also a Cancer Fund for Children Board Member. Rob knows better than anyone the support that young people and families need when they have been given a cancer diagnosis and his incredible experience helps to guide our organisation forward ensuring that children and there families receive the right support at the right time.
Regina Seenan - Regina is one of our wonderful Community Service Managers at Cancer Fund for Children supporting with the development of our hospital support, bereavement support, parental support and support for palliative families. All of these developments are based on ongoing feedback from both staff and families, and also form part of our strategic plan. Regina also focuses on continuing to harness relationships with key stakeholders to ensure our vital work can continue.
Conor Kelly - Conor has recently joined the team as one of our Peer Facilitators working work with our Youth Engagement Groups. These groups are one of the ways we aim to ensure that the voice of children and young people is at the heart of our organisation, and young people are an active voice in championing change across cancer services. Having used the services of Cancer Fund for Children himself, Conor offers a unique insight and support for the young people involved.
Laura Matthews - Laura, mum of 2, was diagnosed with cancer in March 2019 and Cancer Fund for Children were able to support her family during that time. Having been an incredible support to the charity ever since, Laura took on the Belfast Marathon relay in 2022 for Cancer Fund for Children and is back once again to join the Daisy Dream Team and encourage other people to get involved and donate our wonderful cause.
I am part of the Daisy Dream Team as Cancer Fund For Children is such an amazing charity. They supported my family and I in 2019 - my children went on residential breaks at Narnia Log Cabin, my son done his Bronze Duke Of Edinburgh Award with them, and my family and I enjoyed a much needed at the time weekend break at Daisy Lodge in Newcastle. I have been helping to raise money for this charity from 2019 and will always continue to do so as the team mean a lot to me. When I got the email asking me if I would like to get involved I jumped at the chance and I would encourage anyone who is thinking of taking part in the Belfast Marathon to raise money for Cancer Fund For Children, or donate to our own Daisy Dream Team, as they really go above and beyond to help families affected by cancer. They are a great team and I am proud to run as part of their team. Let's do this!! (Laura Matthews)
So whether you can make a donation to support this amazing Dream Team or you have been inspired to enter the marathon yourself (solo or with your family, friends, work colleagues, club, or school!), every person stepping out this April will help ensure we can continue to be there for young people and families when they need us most. Together, we can ensure no child faces cancer alone.
