To fund healthcare where it is needed most at Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust
Dr Tariq Shafi, originally from Lahore in Pakistan, worked as a Consultant Haematologist at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, Kent - respected and loved by both patients and colleagues alike his friends described him as 'amongst the finest Doctors'.
Tariq passed away in 2020 after contracting COVID19. Ever the professional he continued to Consult and hold telephone clinics despite having developed symptoms of Corona and isolating at home.
Tariq originally left Pakistan for the UK in 1988 and then worked in the military hospital in Riyadh Saudi Arabia until 2007. He returned to the UK in April 2007 as Consultant Haematologist at Darent Valley Hospital. Though his work took him overseas he never lost touch with Pakistan and he was active in helping young Pakistani Doctors come to the UK for further training.
He went back to Pakistan regularly spending much of his time at Shaukat Khanum Lahore,
Tariq also loved the game of Cricket and could often be found either playing in or watching a game at Dartford Cricket Club.
Tariq is hugely missed by family, friends, colleagues and patients and this fund has been established to continue his legacy and help raise funds to support patient care at Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust.
