Complementary Therapy Service, Cancer and Palliative Care, Western General Hospital, Edinburgh
Oncology and palliative care services offer a range of Complementary Therapies, all free of charge, to patients living with the day-to-day challenges of their illness. This helps with symptoms and enables people to relax when they are anxious about treatment and their future wellbeing. The service is highly valued by patients.
The therapies offered to patients include aromatherapy, massage and acupressure and are offered both in hospital and in the community.
The Complementary Therapy Service is funded entirely by donations, so your gift will make a very real difference.
When Sheila had a recurrence of her breast cancer, her oncology team agreed that her surgery and extensive regular drug therapies were leaving her stressed and exhausted and that she needed support. The complementary therapists, funded by donations, apply reflexology to Sheila's feet and hands during her weekly chemotherapy sessions.
"I wasn't keen on the idea to start with, but the therapist gently persuaded me to try it. Now I'm nearly at the end of my chemo, and the reflexology has helped enormously with the stress and makes the whole thing a lot easier to bear. I'm so relaxed I quite often fall asleep!"
