During the current COVID-19 pandemic, people who are homeless or vulnerably housed are even more vulnerable. They cannot self-isolate, often dont have any way to wash their hands and stay clean and will struggle to access information, advice and guidance. Many of the people we support have complex needs that can reduce their capacity to seek help and pre-existing health conditions that put them at particular risk from contracting the virus. With very limited support available elsewhere, our clients need us now more than ever.
*APPEAL UPDATE*
Following Government guidance on 23rd March 2020 it is with immense sadness that we have had to temporarily close our Day Centre to protect our clients, staff and the public. We have been in operation since 1860 and we know that for a lot of our clients the Dellow Centre is the only community they have, and a life-saving resource.
This does not mean we have stopped working though! We are still doing everything we can to support our vulnerable clients and keep them safe during this time, including:
Helping them to get their prescription drugs.
Keeping in regular contact with those that have mobile phones to minimise the negative impact of isolation.
Offering support, guidance and counselling to cope with these challenging times.
Working closely with the Local Authority to ensure people sleeping rough are provided with safe adequate temporary housing and food.
With the closure of our Day Centre, we have seen many of our sustainable income sources vanish overnight.
In these extraordinary times, we would like to ask you to support us generously so that we can continue providing the support mentioned above and so we can hit the ground running when the outbreak eases and we are able to re-open.
