The windows are known as narrative glass as they tell the stories from the Old Testament books of Genesis and Exodus, from creation to the Israelites wandering in the wilderness with Moses.
These windows are in desperate need of cleaning and restoration. Moisture (rain and internal condensation) attacks medieval glass because it is rich in potash and other soluble salts, to cause pitting which damages the painted surface. The continued attack of moisture causes the products of this corrosion to stream down the glass and mix with dirt forming a crust which further undermines the painted imagery.
