Story

CHALLENGE 750

Take on Challenge 750 to support The Salvation Armys food security projects feeding hope to farmers from generation to generation.

In 2019, close to 750 million or nearly one in ten people in the world were exposed to severe levels of food insecurity.

For farmers in Zimbabwe, a good crop means they can feed their families. Yet as the changing climate makes weather unpredictable, some tried and trusted methods of growing crops have begun failing small-scale farmers.

The Salvation Army is providing training in simple and sustainable farming techniques to help farmers make the best use of their land and overcome food insecurity.

Feeding Hope from generation to generation

For farmers in Zimbabwe, a good crop means they can feed their families, have surplus to sell for income and therefore pay for education, healthcare and other costs. Yet as the changing climate makes weather unpredictable, some tried and trusted methods of growing crops have begun failing small-scale farmers.

The Salvation Army is providing training in simple and sustainable farming techniques. As crop yields increase and confidence grows, families from one generation to another can thrive and whole communities can know that the future they hope for is secure.

Helping-Hand 2021

Feeding Hope is the focus of The Salvation Armys 2021 Helping-Hand Appeal. Money raised through this Appeal will be used to support The Salvation Armys international Food Security projects.

The Salvation Army supports a number of Food Security projects around the world such as reintroducing edible insects into the habitat of rural Democratic Republic of Congo and training small-scale farmers in Zimbabwe. By supporting communities to make the best use of their land, especially as they battle the effects of climate change, they will be better equipped to overcome malnutrition and lift themselves out of poverty.
