Story

By taking part in Flowery Shirt Day 2023, you'll be supporting the MedEquip4Kids Hummingbird Project, a bespoke six-week course to improve young people's mental health in schools.

The course was created by MedEquip4Kids, in partnership with psychologists from the University of Bolton and the University of Chester, to address young peoples mental health issues . It is offered free of charge to primary and secondary schools and youth groups in the North West of England.

A very well organised project which catered for all children. Ian has been a fantastic teacher and the children have really enjoyed every session! This is a brilliant project which supports childrens wellbeing. Teacher, Pikes Lane Primary School

So far the course has been delivered to 2,900 pupils across 17 schools. Our evaluation to date, which has been published in academic journals, shows promising reductions in anxiety, depression, trauma, physical problems, functioning and risk to self. The course is based on Positive Psychology and covers topics including Mental Health and Stigma, Happiness and Wellbeing, Resilience and Character Strengths, Growth Mindsets, Hope and Gratitude, and Mindfulness.

"I liked what we did because over the past few weeks. I have felt more calm, and it has also helped my Mum because of the meditations we have done and how to deal with stress." Pupil, Focus Group
