Story

We are really excited to launch our brand new virtual fundraising event, Friendship Five, with the help of our patron, Iain Henderson. The Ulster and Ireland rugby star is calling on you to join him and help raise £25,000 to fund 1,000 hours of vital nursing care for local people with cancer.

The great news is that Friendship Five is a challenge for all ages and abilities. Simply choose an activity based around the number 5 - so run, walk, cycle, swim or jog 5 miles, then get five of your friends to take part too. There are no rule but we do ask you to follow government Covid-19 guidelines on social distancing in your area.

How to take part

Make your Friendship Five your own - choose whether you want to run, walk, swim or cycle 5 miles. Once you have registered to take part, we will send you a downloadable fundraising pack with all the information you need to get started. It would be great if you would encourage five of your friends to take part too. Of course, our fundraising team are here to help support you in any way we can.

Set up a JustGiving page

Once you have chosen your Friendship Five activity, simply click on the link to the right - START FUNDRAISING - to get started. By joining our dedicated Friendship Five page, you will be able to see how the Friendship Five team is growing, how much is being raised jointly by everyone taking part and how this equates to nursing hours. Next, share your news with friends and family to encourage them to sponsor you. Then get active, have fun and donate whatever you can.

How your support will make a difference

Friends of the Cancer Centre funds 11 specialist nurses, supporting local people with different types of cancer. Every £25 you raise by taking part in the Friendship Five could fund one hour of speciailist care. Together, we are hoping to raise £25,000 to help fund 1000 hours of care.

In recent months COVID-19 has changed all our lives and like many other organisations, Friends of the Cancer Centre has had to adapt its plans, cancelling or postponing events and finding new ways of fundraising. Despite these challenges, Friends of the Cancer Centre staff have continued their vital work in the most difficult of circumstances, supporting their patients every step of the way. For example, the charitys team of 11 specialist nurses have contributed over 9,000 hours of care in the last 6 months.

In order to continue this work, Friends of the Cancer Centre needs our support now, more than ever. We really hope you'll take part in the Friendship Five and every penny will make a big difference to local people impacted by cancer.
