Communication Workers Union Humanitarian Aid (CWUHA) is a charitable organisation which was set up by trade unionists in response to the plight of vulnerable children. We operate mainly in Eastern Europe, Africa, Republic of Ireland and the UK.

Story

Ray Atkinsons Sponsored Head Shave.

Hi Friends, Family, Work Mates, Comrades.

Just prior to Christmas 2021 I was told I had a tumour on my oesophagus, after weeks of investigation and consultation my treatment for the tumour has been agreed and I will shortly be undergoing a course of chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy.

One of the consequences of this will be a loss of hair. Those of you that know me will realise that this will be a tragedy for me losing my blonde hair after all these years!!

Rather than lose it in bits and pieces we have decided to do a sponsored head shave and raise some much needed funds for the following two charities, CWUHA (of which I am a trustee) and the Rosemere Cancer Unit at the Royal Preston Hospital, these are the lovely people who are looking after me.

We intend to film the head shave live on Facebook and post it on multiple websites, so watch this space and please give generously if you can.

We are planning the Headshave live from Preston at the CWU North Lancs & Cumbria branch offices, 75 Garstang Road, PR1 1LD on the 4th March at approximately 14:30

I was a delivery postman working for Royal Mail out of Preston Delivery Office for over 30 years, I was the Communication Workers Union (CWU) Area Delivery Representative for 15 years and a CWU Education & Training Project Worker for 15 years. I have also been a trustee for Communication Workers Union Humanitarian Aid (CWUHA) charity for over 15 years.
