Goodenough College has been working with Cara for a number of years. In that time, through the generous support of our community, five postgraduate students who were forced to flee their homes as a result of persecution, violence or conflict have been provided with a safe home and a welcoming community at the College.
Cara recently approached the College to provide a safe and secure home for Ukrainian students. We are keen to help but, in these challenging financial times, we need our global community to come together to help us make this a reality.
We are pleased to announce that, including generous donations from a Canadian Alum and The Drapers Company, we were able to raise £160,240 in total. Thank you to all our Alumni and benefactors who responded so generously. Your gifts will provide support for at risk students to live at the College for the duration of their PhDs.
The College is already a home to Cara Scholars from Syria, Turkey and Myanmar. Ukraine is a pressing priority, supporting Afghan students is also currently a key focus and we will continue to partner with Cara to receive all students in need of shelter.
Achieving academic excellence was always my ambition, but once the war started it also felt like an obligation. I wanted to learn the skills that I could later use to help rebuild my country. When I heard about Cara my dreams were saved from dying. They helped me to find an academic placement that suited me and to find an amazing place to live here at Goodenough College.

I am extremely passionate about supporting students facing terrible risks across the world and helping them get to safety. Having lived at Goodenough College myself, I can't think of a safer and more supportive community for them to be part of and with this in mind, I am proud to have been integral to Goodenough's partnership with Cara. Along with other generous Goodenough Alumni, my family and I have supported two at-risk students to live at the College and I am delighted to now extend this support to another two.
