Story
Since the 1900s, the philanthropic support of Harrogate Ladies College parents, staff and alumni has helped to create a school that fosters and enhances the learning and development of our students both in and beyond the classroom. Donations of musical equipment, refurbished décor and upholstery in libraries and common rooms, chapel pews and auditorium seating, all so generously given by our alumni, ensure we can continue to provide an environment for our pupils to thrive. Thank you to all those who have helped in the past.
Now attention has turned to the Small Hall, a venue for many drama and arts performances over the years. Before the 1960s, this space was known as the Gymnasium. Once the current Assembly Hall was built in the late 1950s, gymnastics, rope climbing, vaulting and other activities were moved to there, and the Small Hall, as it became known, was instead used for productions and performances.
After seeing many productions over the years, maintenance on the floor, walls, and repairs to lighting and doors are needed to restore this space to its former glory. The vast timber floor will be sanded and re-varnished, and blackout roller blinds will replace the curtains to allow natural light during the day. We are calling on your generosity to help us raise money for this project. If you can, please consider helping with a financial gift. You could donate to remember a special friend or Staff member, celebrate a memorable production with a donation from you and your former classmates, or even ask for a donation from family instead of a birthday gift. Thank you.
If you would like to discuss your gift, please contact Alumni Relations Officer Alex Partridge on alex.partridge@hlc.org.uk
Small Hall Speakers
We are delighted to be holding a series of online termly talks to support the Small Hall Campaign. The first talk was on 24th November 2020, from alumna Amanda K. Hale, who spoke about her varied work as a professional author, poet and playwright and the influence of her College teachers, woven in with school memories, recollections of drama and amusing anecdotes! The event was free to watch, but we hope that attendees may consider giving a donation of any size if they are able to - even a couple of pounds will be a fantastic contribution to this worthwhile project. If you would like to watch the recording of the event, please get in touch on hcu@hlc.org.uk The next Small Hall Speakers event is due to take place in the Spring term, so keep an eye on www.hlc.org.uk/alumni-events/ for updates. Thank you for your support.
