Coronavirus and Storm Dennis recovery appeal

After flood damage from Storm Dennis, the centre has temporarily closed again due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak. This appeal is to raise the required funds for flood repairs and ensure running costs are met during the temporary closure.

Story

Heathrow Special Needs Centre provides considerable benefits for people with disabilities and special needs to be had through physical activity and contact with animals and plants.

It is possible for them to not only derive considerable proven therapeutic benefit but also to develop skills, get education, get work experience and reach personal targets with a sense of personal achievement in so doing.

The charity welcomes visitors and users from 5 years of age with all types of disability and special needs and provides free services which are not available from local authorities or commercial organisations.

The centre is temporarily closed to all visitors following HM Government guidelines on Covid-19 (coronavirus) to safeguard users, staff and volunteers.

During the closure period the centre continues to incur significant overhead costs, in particular ensuring animals are well cared for, the site is maintained and other essential activities continue ready for reopening as soon as we are able.

Unfunded costs are expected to reach circa £30,000 if we are to remain closed until the summer.

Additionally as the River Colne runs through the site, following heavy rain much of the centre was flooded for the two weeks following Storm Dennis causing significant damage.

Despite insurance coverage being in place, the centre has suffered a financial impact estimated at £5,000 including paying a large policy excess, plus circa £800/week in lost horse riding fees and the temporary shop/café closure.
