The Petrobowl Competition is held annually at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE). The Petrobowl competition pitches SPE student chapter teams against each other in a series of intensive rounds, answering technical and nontechnical industry-related questions. The contest is widely known on an international level and involves the best universities across the globe. This is good for the reputation and prestige of the Heriot-Watt University (HWU).

The top 32 teams from the regional qualifiers will be competing at the forth coming ATCE in Dallas. ATCE is SPEs annual meeting of members, it features ground-breaking papers and special technical events designed to accelerate the application of innovations in every technical discipline. This, therefore, also serves as an opportunity for the participants to broaden their knowledge on the dynamics and technological advancements in the Oil and Gas industry, as well as network with other participants, key industry players and employers.

The HWU Petrobowl team is comprised of highly motivated and talented students with different educational and cultural backgrounds. The team performed extremely well, emerging 2nd position, in the European regional qualifier in April. HWU is the only University representing the UK for the finals at ATCE, hence our participation in this contest is a chance to showcase, on the world stage, the high quality of education we receive, not only in our university, but in the entire UK. The HWU Petrobowl team is working painstakingly to ensure we make HWU, our sponsors and the UK proud.
