The Church of the Holy Cross, Uckfield has parts of its building (including the bell tower) with origins in the 14th Century and the main part of the church buildings we see today built in the 1840s. The windows were designed and installed during the later part of the 19th and early 20th Century meaning they are all over 100 years old.
Every 5 years the church buildings are surveyed to ensure they are sympathetically maintained and plans are produced to repair and replace things as needed. At the most recent visit the surveyors have highlighted some essential repairs and preventative maintenance to ensure the windows remain a part of the church for many more years to come.
These repairs include the metal and lead frameworks that hold the hundreds of pieces of glass in each window together and maintenance of the surrounding stonework to keep control of the weather and other general wear and tear.
The Parochial Church Council are the custodians of the church and its buildings and take their responsibilities to ensure the church remains a relevant key part of the local community very seriously and have decided to run a dedicated appeal to raise money towards the costs which are expected to be in the region of £10,000.
Everyone at Holy Cross is extremely grateful to you for taking the time to read about our appeal and hope that you feel able to support the appeal and help make sure the windows remain a beautiful part of our wonderful church family.
