Astronomy is an inexpensive hobby that all can enjoy - all you require is the darkness, and a cloudless night, and your astronomy hobby has just begun. You can easily start in astronomy by simply learning where things are in the sky, and a lot of fun can be had by learning about the constellations, the myths and legends behind them, the brightest stars and how the moon and planets move in the sky.
The only issue astronomers have is the weather especially in the UK.
But UK Astronomy has a solution, and this is where we need your help! We would like to purchase an inflatable planetarium. That way come cloud or rain, night, or day we can bring the skies to you! This planetarium will allow UK Astronomy to teach anyone, anytime, anywhere, opening so many more possibilities for both the charity and the people we inspire.
This short video shows you how an observatory based in America use a mobile planetarium to bring the skies to a local childrens hospital. It gives you a good idea of what the planetarium looks like both inside and outside and the difference that it makes to the children (and adults) who experience it.
