Steer is a project of Salford Foundation
Salford Foundation T was referred due to various missing from home episodes and socialising with the wrong crowd. Since T had been involved with this group of individuals he has gone missing from home for up to the longest period of 10 days, appearing unkempt, had started taking drugs and is suspected to be selling drugs such as cannabis. T's relationship with his family was breaking down and he had completely changed since being involved with this gang of people.
Having a mentor is giving me the time to talk about how I'm feeling and what I can do when I am not feeling good"
Since working with a Steer mentor T has stopped associating with the people in his local area which lead to most of his negative behaviours and there have been no missing from home incidents. Despite the pandemic T engaged well with the project predominantly over the phone and begun to understand criminal exploitation and what this looks like specifically in relation to himself.
T now goes to college and after a rocky transition into his new routine now attends regularly with a solid long term aspiration of working in the construction industry.
T believes the support of his Steer mentor both helped him recognise the issues that were negatively effecting him as well as identifying goals to keep him motivated.
By supporting Salford Foundation more young people are being given opportunities to fulfil their potential.
