Story

We have been saddened by recent vandalism to our much loved reconstruction Anglo-Saxon village at Jarrow Hall. Our small team have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure the site can safely welcome visitors back when we re-open our doors and a few people have made this even harder for us.

The village has three full-scale buildings constructed nearly thirty years ago using traditional techniques and based on excavations which took place in Northumberland - the Thirlings Hall, Monastic workshop and Grubenhaus

Our team which includes dedicated volunteers are able to bring history to life for school children, visitors and local families, helping them to learn about and enjoy our Anglo-Saxon heritage and this would be greatly missed.

"Really exciting and realistic. Children comment on believing they were in Anglo-Saxon England." Teacher - St Joseph RC School

We have been inspired and are grateful for the support shown on social media and we are now fundraising for repair work using traditional techniques, hopefully with support from local volunteers.
