Story

Thank you to everyone that donated and supported the amazing team.

Huge thank you to everyone who joined us at North Yorkshire Water Park last Sunday, helping to raise nearly £2,000 on the actual day, while cheering on Mike, Kerry and Emma as they completed their 110 mile sponsored walk. Thanks to @riponcityband, North Yorkshire Water Park and the Derwent Valley scouts' group for their wonderful support. Here is little Alex proudly representing our charity while listening to the wonderful Ripon City Brass

The team are doing brilliantly and are on to day 3 of their challenge. A shorter day today with only 14 miles having done 42 over the past 2 days.

Background

As a previous, valued supporter of the Azerley Charity Clay Shoot, we thought you would like to hear about our 2021 activity to raise funds for our chosen charity, Support Dogs UK.

Over the last 14 years, the Azerley Charity Clay Shoot has raised and donated circa £165k to some very worthwhile local childrens charities. Including: The Leeds St James Neo Natal Unit; The Sick Childrens Trust; Follifoot Park Disabled Riders Group; The Child Development Centre at Harrogate Hospital; and for the last few years, Support Dogs UK.

Situation

This year was going to be the inaugural shoot at the new location of Barden, Leyburn, but due to the coronavirus pandemic we have had to take the decision to cancel and hopefully be back with a full shoot in 2022.

We are, however, very keen to complete some form of fund raising in order to keep promoting Support Dogs UK. As you can imagine this past year has been a very difficult year for the charity financially with a 45% drop in income. Support Dogs UK is a unique, Yorkshire based charity working with volunteers throughout the region to train: Seizure Alert Dogs for people with epilepsy; Autism Assistance Dogs for children with autism; and Disability Assistance Dogs for adults with physical disabilities. It estimates its services save the NHS over £19 million a year

Proposal

As we are trying to raise money for Support Dogs UK we have decided to conduct a K9 Challenge. Two of our own team (Kevin, Emma and Michael) are going to walk 109 miles of the Cleveland Way, starting on Tuesday 21st September 2021 and finishing on Sunday 26th September 2021. We will share details of the route, stages etc in due course.

This is where you can get involved and be as creative as you like!

Could you walk or run for 900 metres, 9km or 9 miles?

Could you get 9 friends together for a sing along?

Could you bake 90 canine biscuits?

We are asking you to sign up for the K9 Challenge in whatever way suits you best - just stick to the K9 theme, be it walking, running or cycling 9 miles, juggling for 9 minutes, or holding workouts with 9 friends doing 9 reps of 9 exercises. You could even join us on the Cleveland Way, the ideas and options are endless!!

Remember to share any photos or videos of the challenge using the hashtag #K9Challenge2021.
