Give 30 Rural Children with Disabilities the Chance to Attend School

Kyaninga Inclusive Model School desperately needs a school bus. Without a school bus, children with disabilities (CWDs) in rural communities simply cannot access school. Help give 30 unreached CWDs the high-quality education they deserve.

Kyaninga CDC Trust raises funds to help children with disabilities living in extreme poverty in western Uganda. We train and support local community health workers to provide rehabilitation, health care, health education and essential mobility equipment to help children gain essential skills, independence and to reach their true potential.

Story

Kyaninga Inclusive Model School (KIMS) desperately needs a school bus. Hazardous dirt paths and busy unsafe roads are a reality for most children in Uganda, but for Children with Disabilities (CWDs), for whom this long daily walk is impossible, education is not a reality.

In rural communities in Uganda, disability can be associated with witchcraft and demonisation. As a result, CWDs are often hidden for fear of scorn and ridicule, and many children remain unreached and neglected.

KIMS is a unique school located in Western Uganda. The inclusive school offers an engaging and child-centred education to a diverse group of children, including CWDs and typical learners from very different socio-economic backgrounds. Our vision is a joyful place where children are empowered to explore their potential within an environment of growth and well-being. One school bus will access outlying villages, where many children with disabilities (CWDs) are losing hope.

91% of CWDs in Uganda are not enrolled in primary school. Those who do attend are more likely to be excluded from the classroom, fail to progress, and consequently drop out.

Without a school bus, children with disabilities in rural communities cannot access school. Your contribution could give 30 unreached children with disability the high-quality education they deserve and the hope of a brighter future.
