Story

"Together we can ensure that The Foundation can continue to be there to bring hope to families in the future... a donation this Christmas really could help them be a lifeline to others like me, affected by a brain tumour."

Having been diagnosed with a brain tumour just last year, supporter Kevin Fisher and his family tell their story to raise awareness of this devastating disease and share how The Foundation can bring hope to others this Christmas.

"I was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year following four years of problems with my sight, including flashing lights and a feeling of disorientation. An eye appointment at Ashford Hospital prompted concerns that I might be having a stroke and I was sent straight to A&E. An urgent MRI scan revealed a mass on my brain and I had immediate emergency surgery which successfully removed 90% of the oligodendroglioma brain tumour."

Kevin's wife Kate told us "Life was really hard to begin with as Kevin was in hospital a lot and it felt like our lives had been turned upside down. Life changed overnight for us, yet it put a lot of things into perspective. We don't want to waste any time. The children also need to have a normal life without this awful tumour changing everything.

On the day of the diagnosis, a nurse told us to live our lives this has stuck with us. We are determined to keep positive, take each day as it comes and most importantly enjoy the now and The Lewis Moody Foundation helps us do this."

"Life isn't easy right now and things have changed dramatically for our whole family during the pandemic, but we also know that we are extremely lucky. We have two wonderful children Erin and Billy, plus unwavering support from our family and friends who have helped us through the last year. We are also lucky to have found The Lewis Moody Foundation and The Brain Tumour Charity who have made us feel part of the community and helped us to realise that we are not alone. Its become really important for us to help these organisations who have given us focus, incredible support and hope for the future.

Charities have been hugely affected by the pandemic. With your help, we want to ensure that The Foundation can continue to be there to bring hope to families in the future. They have been vital through our journey and a donation this Christmas really could help them be a lifeline to others like me, affected by a brain tumour."

At The Lewis Moody Foundation we tackle brain tumours, funding support to improve lives, funding pioneering research to change lives and raising awareness to save lives, because brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40.

With less than 2% of cancer research funding in the UK allocated to the cause, we are dedicated to making a difference and changing the story around brain tumours and with your help we can.

By giving a donation to our Christmas Appeal today, your donation will be doubled thanks to the generosity of our Corporate Partners, Preston-Turnbull, who have kindly pledged to match donations up to a total of £15,000. Every donation can help tackle brain tumours.
