Llangennith beach is situated on the western edge of the Gower Peninsula. It is a long sandy beach, stretching over 3 miles from Rhossili at the southern end to Burry Holms at the northern end. It is a popular beach with surfers and other water sports enthusiasts, due to it having the most consistent, powerful surf on the Gower.
The summer of 2020 has seen exceptionally dangerous beach conditions at Llangennith with large sand banks causing rip currents mostly at high tide. The combination of consistent surf, rip currents and absence of a full-time lifeguard service, combined with the publics general lack of beach & water safety knowledge can result in water users getting into difficulty.
In response to the current conditions volunteer lifeguards from Langland Bay Lifeguard Club have been carrying out patrols 2 hours either side of high tide at weekends in order to keep the public safe. Since the start of volunteer patrols in July 2020 our members have carried out a number of water-based rescues, assists and provided first aid to beach goers.100% of donations received helps us provide surf lifesaving & first aid training for our members and local community groups, as well as voluntary beach lifesaving patrols here at Llangennith and at Langland.Thank you on behalf of LBLC.
