Story

The RNLI established a lifeboat station in Looe in 1866 after several local boatmen lost their lives trying to assist a local fishing boat. The station remained open for 64 years before the station was closed in 1930 and its lifeboat was withdrawn with the introduction of motor lifeboats at both the Fowey and Plymouth Stations.

After an absence of 62 years, in 1992 the RNLI reopened the station as a summer only Inshore Lifeboat Station. Having been housed on the seafront and at Middleton Corner, in 2003 the new purpose-built lifeboat station was opened to house both the stations D-Class and Atlantic Class Inshore Lifeboats and their launching equipment.

The volunteer lifeboat crew provide a 24-hour search and rescue service 365 days a year for the southeast Cornish Coastline, but none of this would be possible without the support of the public and their donations. It costs in the region of £85k a year to run and maintain the service in Looe, all of which comes from the generous donations of the public.

Through this page you can either make a simple donation to support the work of our volunteers by clicking on the "Give Now" button, or you can set up your own JustGiving Fundraising Page to raise money by clicking on the "start fundraising" button.

Your contribution will help to fund the selfless work of our volunteer lifeboat crew in Looe, by doing so you will be helping to save lives around our coast and will be providing the best equipment possible to ensure the safety of our volunteers.
