Marie Curie Fundraising Group Strabane are a local community group dedicated to raising money and awareness of Marie Curie.
"Strabane Marie Curie Group was formed over fifty two years ago.
Four of the original members are still very active. In normal times, the group meets for an hour on the first Tuesday of each month, with the exception of the summer months, July and August.
Key annual events are Daffodil Day in March and Flag Day in September, which take place all over N. Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. These key events are supported by the members and the numerous local volunteers, who give of their time to do the street collections, no matter what the conditions are. The generosity of the community on these two days is immeasurable. As a group, we organize our own fundraising events, Ladies Luncheon in October, the Annual Carol Service at Christmas, Annual Golf Tournament and our Quiz Nites. We have held floral/cookery demonstrations, a fashion show and hosted coffee mornings. In our community, we are so lucky to have a number of families, groups, organizations and individuals who fundraise their way. They have donated their time and money to what they feel is a wonderful cause, Marie Curie. When I ask them, why do they do it the response I get is: The concept of helping others makes us feel good about ourselves.
Marie Curie Support Group in Strabane has raised in excess of £542,000.00 as of December 2020."
Since 2011, Marie Curie has set up Fundraising Groups across the UK to help raise money and awareness for the charity in their local area. They are a vital part of the Marie Curie family, raising a fantastic amount each year to help ensure we can keep supporting people living with a terminal illness and their loved ones. This is through our wide range of services including hospices, nursing, Information and Support services and research.
