This ground-breaking animation for MDS World Awareness Day 2020 aims to raise awareness of MDS - a rare blood cancer- to create an accessible story for newly diagnosed patients and their loved ones, signpost them to help & support and raise funds for MDS UK!

We would aim to use any donations to help us cover the costs arising from our involvement in, and contribution to, MDS-related research. MDS UK staff, committee members and expert patients are involved all year round in different aspects of research, working tirelessly for the benefit of those affected by this unenviable disease.

This includes Patient and Public Information (PPI) work, for both commercial and non-commercial clinical trials and ensuring MDS patients have access to drugs through our input to the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and National Institute of Clinical Health and Excellence (NICE). Having funded one PhD research project at Queens University, Belfast, we are also considering funding more direct research (funds permitting).

This 'wider research and access' work takes time, effort and energy, and therefore needs to be funded somehow. Without this work, ethics boards would not approve trials, EMA and NICE processes would be delayed, and access to drugs might be compromised. And, above all, the voice, needs and wishes of patients would not be heard or considered.

If you have been moved by this animation and would like to support our research work, please donate whatever you can! Anything you give, no matter how small, will go such a long way- especially during these COVID-19 times where our funding has significantly decreased due to cancelled events!

MDS UK is the only charity in the UK providing vital support, information, advice and conducting research solely into Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS)- a rare blood cancer where the bone marrow fails to produce healthy blood cells. We are a small charity that needs YOUR support!
