Story

I feel we can all empathise a bit more with those for whom isolation is normal and not just for lockdown. Great volunteers at Me2 Club ensure our vulnerable young people access mainstream activities. A privilege to meet such a life changing organisation. (The High Sheriff of Berkshire)

We need to raise a further £115k this year to fund the recovery work needed for young people to rebuild their confidence and independence. Your generous donations will mean that you'll be helping us continue to be there for young people and prevent them from feeling "locked out and abandoned".

With restrictions across England coming to an end, now is the time to tackle the social isolation and loneliness caused by exclusion from mainstream leisure activities. We'll achieve this by recruiting and training even more specialist volunteers who can help a child to join in, and benefit from, the activity they love!

Doing activities with Me2 Club is one of the few things she enjoys doing. Her anxieties prevent her from joining in most things, but she has come to trust the Me2 Club team and really looks forward to doing things with them. (Me2 Club Parent)

At the beginning of the pandemic, we quickly transformed our services to make sure that the children and young people didn't suffer from feelings of loneliness and isolation. We delivered multiple weekly online activity sessions, with a focus on keeping children connected with friends and being physically and emotionally healthy. For those who were unable to engage online we sent regular craft and sensory packs. We maintained regular contact with families and were described as a 'lifeline' when all other forms of support dropped away.

Our agile and quick response led to external recognition. We were finalists in the UK Youth Inspiring Hope Awards and were presented with a Get Berkshire Active Lockdown Hero Award.

Over the course of the pandemic our finances have been severely impacted. Emergency COVID funds are no longer available, yet the demand for our unique and highly impactful support is continuing to grow. Our recovery plan is focused on:

- Helping children return to, or start, activities safely.

- Creating high quality volunteering opportunities that enable communities to give back and make a difference.

- Working with mainstream activity providers to improve their inclusion and accessibility to all children and young people.

It's been such a pleasure working for Me2 Club, especially during the pandemic. I've loved growing a strong bond with my match and his family and making an impact within the local community. If you're looking to work with children and to make an impact too then please get involved! You won't regret it. (Me2 Club Volunteer)

Me2 Club enables children and young people aged 5 to 19 years with additional needs to participate in mainstream activities (Scouts, Youth/Sports Clubs etc). This is achieved by training and providing volunteers to offer 1-1 support. We also train activity leaders in disability and inclusion.
