The current lighting in our hangars is no longer fit for purpose: having been installed 33 years ago in Hangar 1 & 19 years ago in Hangar 2; it is energy-intensive, producing waste heat as well as light; and in Hangar 1 it is sodium-based, which creates a sickly orange cast over the exhibits!
We have recently had an opportunity to bid for money towards the cost of replacing the lights with more efficient, more attractive and user-friendly, white LED lights, but we will still need to cover a significant part of the replacement costs ourselves.
The LED lighting will help us to be more sustainable, in terms of becoming a greener museum, as well as helping lower our operating costs and to become more financially secure in these challenging times.
This appeal may be of particular interest to the photographers out there; with better and more consistent lighting in the hangars, our exhibits will be easier to photograph.
Please consider making a donation if you can; any excess funds raised over and above the cost of the lighting will be directed towards the ongoing restoration of our exhibits.
